Overview

You play as the Rune Knight, a knight who has magically engraved runes into both his armor and skin. The Rune Knight has been trapped, chained up, in a dark magical dungeon for a millennium and has only stayed alive due to the magical properties of your body. The game takes place right when your chains begin to weaken, and you have enough power to escape. You traverse a crumbling dungeon ruin with intense fast-paced platformer with assistance from portal magic.

Game mechanics are Sliding, Wall Running, the ability to Grapple, and the ability to run through Two-Way Portals.

Rune Knight is a solo project and is a short 3-minute experience which was made with the purpose of testing my level design skills. In this project I wanted to focus on improving how to make my level layouts, and my documentation for said layouts.

Skills I Developed

Through this project, I gained a deep understanding of guided lighting and the significance of line of sight in effective level design. One of my key takeaways from feedback I received was the need to minimize excessive dark spaces within the player's field of view, ensuring a more engaging and immersive gameplay experience. This experience has sharpened my ability to balance visual aesthetics with gameplay functionality, contributing to my growth as a level designer. In addition to this, I greatly improved my documentation skills in comparison to my previous level design project, The Realm.
